The Trustee of Allah

The supplications of the Ahl al-Bayt are among the most significant and enriching aspects of Shia Islam, reflecting the profound spiritual relationship the Imams had with their Creator. They convey not only the spiritual state of the Imams, but also their beliefs, values, principles, and deep theological knowledge, particularly in relation to monotheism.

Through these supplications, the Imams taught their followers the spiritual, social, and psychological dimensions of recognising and sensing the presence of Allah, demonstrating that every action is carried out with awareness of Him before, during, and after it. These prayers are the Imams’ own words, intended to guide and educate the wider community.

One of the most remarkable of these supplications is Ziyārat Amīnullāh (The Trustee of Allah), so named because of its opening line. Its unique quality lies in the fact that it may be recited when visiting any of the Imams and at any sacred shrine, highlighting the universal significance of its message.

It is reported that Imam Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn (peace be upon him) recited this ziyārah when visiting the grave of his grandfather, Imam ʿAlī (peace be upon him), in Najaf. Widely recorded in reliable sources, it is regarded as one of the finest supplications in both wording and authenticity. Ziyārat Amīnullāh teaches believers how to address Imam ʿAlī with humility, reverence, and love, reflecting the proper etiquette of visiting the infallible Imams.

Believers are encouraged to reflect deeply on its elevated meanings, both in its salutations and supplications, so that their visitation is grounded in understanding and sincerity, rather than being a mere verbal recitation.
